I met with a fan this week, which gave me hope, hope that the world can be better with acts of kindness, as well as creating art. This reader told me that my book helped her get through a major physical illness. That my words guided her through, was an impetus for her to keep going, to persevere, and come out the other side. This meant a lot to me.
When you're writing, you don't know how it will be perceived, what kind of response you will get. You have an idea, but you really don't know. And so, when you hear from a reader about how your work impacted her, it is an inspiration, a motivation to continue writing. It wasn't something I expected. I will keep writing no matter what. But, it's nice to hear from others about how your work impacted them.
This artistic journey can be a lonely one, but when some beautiful souls tell you that you are on the right track, it is worth it. It does give me hope, and encourages me to continue.
